About the Transportation and Supply Chain Institute

For nearly 30 years, the Transportation & Supply Chain Institute (TSCI) at the University of Denver has helped professionals in transportation, logistics, and supply chain elevate their careers through graduate-level education rooted in real-world application.
At the heart of our approach is a cohort model that brings students through the program as a team—building lasting networks and learning alongside faculty and industry leaders. It’s a collaborative format that mirrors the complexity and interconnectivity of today’s transportation ecosystem.
Where did it begin?
TSCI was born out of necessity. In the mid-1990s, former FRA Administrator Gil Carmichael and DU Professor Joe Szyliowicz recognized the growing needs of the intermodal transportation industry. With support from DU leadership, they launched the Institute in close partnership with leading transportation professionals—a legacy that continues today through our active Advisory Board, engaged alumni network, and world-class faculty.
From the start, the Institute prioritized academic excellence. Professor Szyliowicz assembled a top-tier faculty team—some of whom are still involved today—bringing together experts who shaped the foundation of our curriculum and continue to guide its evolution.
